In a major
development in the decades-long debate over the ICC, Governor Robert Ehrlich
and Montgomery County Executive Doug Duncan recently announced the State's
approval of the "Corridor 1" (Master Plan) alignment as their "preferred
alternative" for the InterCounty Connector (ICC). In doing so, the State has
approved the alignment favored by a majority of Montgomery County citizens,
business leaders and elected officials. Also, by doing so, the State has
effectively ruled out both the so-called "Northern alignment" (Corridor 2)
and the "no-build" alternative (essentially doing nothing), moving us a
major step closer to a positive final decision on the ICC, which is expected
later this year.
