Economic Development Committee
Dedicated to improving Montgomery County's business climate by focusing on issues such as regulatory reform, funding for business development, small business incentives, promotion of science and technology, and regional cooperation. Works closely with the County's Economic Advisory Council, Department of Economic Development and the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development in developing and implementing economic development strategies beneficial to Montgomery County.
Education and Workforce Preparation
Deals with issues relating to school funding and accountability, K through 12 and higher education. Promotes workforce development issues working closely with employers, the Workforce Development Corporation, and other interested groups. Oversees PARTNER in Business and Education Program, Executive Shadow Day, and other youth development mentoring programs.
Legislative Affairs
Exercises advisory role within the chamber and throughout the business community in assuring a positive outcome on legislation affecting businesses. Meets formally and informally with elected and appointed officials and other business and non-business organizations and groups to analyze and formulate recommendations on business-related legislative issues.
Small Business Committee
Empowers and fosters business opportunities in our community, promotes and provides services that address financial, educational and other concerns to the small & minority business community, with a focus on issues and programs that benefit employers with 100 or fewer employees.
Infrastructure and Land Use
Promotes balanced transportation infrastructure including roads, mass transit and commuter rail. Advocates for improved east-west linkage between Montgomery County and other major areas of the state. Addresses local, state, and regional transportation issues and related funding needs. Champions the interests of the business community on land use, growth initiatives and related issues. Closely follows matters relating to the county's Planning Board and Board of Appeals. Works with other organizations and groups with similar purposes and goals.
