This will be a third in a series of four Health IT related forums. The topic for the October 2011 Health IT Forum centered on Government Contracting and the topic for the January 26 forum focused on Standards and Implementation of Health IT.  The upcoming topic is Patient Care on March 27, 2012 and on June 5, 2012 there will be a presentation on Health IT Innovations.  The Health IT Forums are held at Johns Hopkins University, Montgomery County Campus

The Montgomery County Department of Economic Development (DED), Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) and the Tech Council of Maryland (TCM) have partnered to advance the innovation of Health IT in Montgomery County, Maryland, and therefore advance health IT for the entire United States.

Speakers from the Maryland Department of Health & Mental Hygiene, Chesapeake Regional Information System for Our Patients (CRISP) and Voluntis presented to over 120 participants on the topic of Medical Records - A Focus on Standards and Implementaion.  The distinguished speakers shared their vision, priorities, and challenges as they lead the effort to transform our nation’s Health IT.

Joshua Sharfstein
Secretary, Maryland Department of Health & Mental Hygiene
Dr. Joshua M. Sharfstein was appointed by Governor Martin O'Malley as Secretary of the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene in January 2011. In March 2009, President Obama appointed Dr. Sharfstein to serve as the Principal Deputy Commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the agency's second highest-ranking position. He served as the Acting Commissioner from March 2009 through May 2009 and as Principal Deputy Commissioner through January 2011.
