Doing Business in Brazil

A full room of participants representing both the private and public sector attended the 2nd of 4 Global Trade Forums and learned about business opportunities in Brazil.   The Forum was honored by the presence of His  Excellency Mauro Vieira, Brazilian Ambassador who provided a keynote address. He spoke about the  economic and political restructuring of Brazil that has led to its radical  reduction of  poverty, elevating 54% of the population into the middle class.  Increased consumption, a higher quality of life and national stability has created opportunities for global businesses to expand Brazil’s hospitality, energy, construction and transportation  networks. His Excellency was introduced by Montgomery County Councilmember George Leventhal who encouraged collaboration between Montgomery County, Maryland and Brazil. Dr. J. Roberto Trujillo, President and CEO, TruBios, LLC moderated a panel which included Braeden Young, Brazil Desk Officer, Office of the Western Hemisphere, U.S. Department of Commerce who spoke about bi-lateral government initiatives to reduce obstacles for U.S.-Brazil business interests.  Michael E. Dearing, EVP, Project Finance, Marriott International described the transformation of Marriott from a real estate owner to a management company and its hotels designed for the business traveler in Brazil.  Vinzenz Plorer, Vice President, Strategy Operations, EMS Pharma presented information about the successful pharmaceutical industry in Brazil. Parag Sheth, Director, High Street Partners advised companies to be mindful of  regulatory environments, employment issues and tax laws in any country businesses seek to do business. Also invited to speak was Dr. Vanderlei S. Bagnato, Professor, University of Sao Paulo, Coordinator, Agency for Innovation who expressed enthusiasm for US – Brazil partnerships.  He also noted that barriers will always exist when taking on new challenges but persistence and strategy are solutions to undertake those barriers.  All agreed that the development of strong relationships in Brazil advanced long-term success for businesses.

His Excellency Mauro Vieira, the keynote at the Global Trade Forum, will discuss the opportunities and ways to do business with Brazil. Brazil is one of the fastest-growing major economies and is predicted to become one of the five largest economies in the world in the decades to come.
